Spring Break

This past week has been my hubby's spring break. He worked the first two days, but it's been wonderful having him home. We have not been idle either. Yesterday we went to a park in DC called Rock Creek Park. It's really wooded and has hiking trails and biking trails all over. It's really big (we only went to a little part of it), and I was amazed that we were in the middle of the city. Hubby and I loved being able to stretch our legs and be in trees with no one else around. We found an old Union fort, Fort DeRussy, that was one of many built in DC to protect it from the Confederacy, just in case. It was fun to find such a bit of history where we weren't expecting it.

Sweets wasn't sure she was having fun. She had this really concerned look on her face for most of the time. Granted, we did have her in the Baby Bjorn and she hasn't been in that thing for a long time. About halfway through our hike, Hubby decided to put her down on the trail, put the world back on her level. Here are some pictures to show how much she liked that:

While driving home, we drove through NW DC. It's beautiful in that part and the homes are big and really pretty. I wouldn't mind living there, if I have a couple million to drop on a house. And yes, they cost that much because I checked. Oh, to be rich...

Today, we went down to Old Towne Alexandria. It was a lot of fun to walk around and see all the old townhomes and all the quaint shops. They have some big name stores there too, but they're all in the lower level townhome/business style. We kept passing all these markers of houses that were built in the 1700s and even one from the 1600s. Now, having been to England and walked on Hadrian's Wall and seen much older history than that, you'd think I'd just take it in stride. But no, I was still gawking and thinking how old it was. I guess it's just that that is the history of America, so it's pretty cool. I didn't exactly realize what a cool place was just down the street from me. It's been a great couple days.
