Disney's Redemption?

So we finally saw Tangled, Disney's latest, and allegedly last, animated princess movie. And we loved it. Now, Hubby hasn't seen it yet to tear it apart for me, but I really enjoyed it. I have written before my problem with Disney. I did love the princess movies growing up, but now having girls, they bother me. Basically, the girl is always waiting for the boy to save her.

But Tangled is different. Rapunzel actually fights for herself. She helps Flynn, the main male character, get out of some sticky situations. At one point, Sweets declared, "She's his hero!" And, later in the movie when Flynn is in trouble, Sweets proclaimed, "He needs his hero!"

Yet Rapunzel doesn't do all the saving by herself. Flynn is the one who makes a critical decision at the end that destroys Mother Gothel, and at his own detriment. Without giving too much away to any of you who haven't seen it yet, I saw that whole last bit in the tower as a wonderful show of true love. He understood her and her situation, then was willing to sacrifice himself to preserve her true self. She then was able to save him with her love. It was really well done.

I can't say the movie is perfect. I can find flaws. Anyone could. The music isn't my favorite from Disney. I kinda wish they had done it with real drawings instead of computer. Flynn is a thief (bad boy) that is really a good guy. But I still loved it. It was fun and creative. Flynn's voice is done by Zachary Levi, the actor who plays Chuck on NBC's Chuck. How can you not love Chuck? But seriously, it is a fun film and one that doesn't make me cringe while watching it. If this is indeed Disney's last princess movie, it's a great one to end with.

you know that first song "mama knows best"? It makes me cringe. Everytime I have to forbid Isabella something for her own good I hear that song.
I think it's a little tricky for young children to sort out how a bad person could seem good and vice versa.
But I watched the show with her (and talked the entire way through it) and at one point near the end when Mother Gothel said "okay I'll be the bad guy" Isabella exclaimed "Now she's telling the truth." Which made me smile.

I also really liked the Move.
