So, I went grocery shopping today, Sweets in tow. She was asleep until the noise of shopping carts woke her up. Grrr. Anyway, I had to get milk, and at $4 a gallon, that isn't a very fun task. I remember the good ol' days when milk only cost $2/gallon. Oh wasn't that nice? I didn't feel guilty going though 2 gallons a week.
So back on point. As I was checking the price again, making sure I wasn't seeing things, I saw it. A piece of paper pinned up at the end of the milk aisle. Boring, so most probably didn't notice it, much less read it. But it had piqued my curiosity, so I read it. It apologized for the increase in milk prices and continued to explain why big government should be shot. Mainly, cow feed is more expensive because corn is increasingly going toward ethanol production, and the price of gas increases shipping prices. So what does the government have to do with this? Government gives farmers subsidies to help them have enough to plant (or to not plant) the corn, and additional funding for selling their corn to ethanol production. The price of corn is increasing, and they're getting money from the government.
I thought we weren't supposed to double dip.
