Sweets is Five

A couple weeks ago, Sweets turned five. She was beyond excited. She's been counting down. All I could think was "She's five? How did THAT happen? Am I old enough to have a 5-year-old?" She reminded me that, yes, she is five. And proud of it.

I've been thinking about the last five years. They haven't all been easy. Sometimes at night I wonder maybe we should have waited. Maybe we should have finished school and earned some money first. But then she wakes up in the morning and climbs into bed with me, and those doubts just go away. I couldn't trade this wonderful little girl for anything else. She is my helper. She is a wonderful sister. She is smart and funny. And most of all, she tells me she likes having me as a mom. When she tells me that, she is my rescuer from the frustrations that want to overtake me.

This is her cake:
Per her request.

She also had Kindergarten Orientation (basically registration) the same day. That's a subject for a completely different post. (Do I really have a 5-year-old? Apparently.)
